Torn between two worlds

Getting what you want in the digital world and what you need in the physical world often results in a one-sided outcome. Whether you are taking care of a family, trying to impress a boss for a new position at work, or keeping up with your studies at a university, the fact is that sooner or later finding time to play World of Warcraft can become a tricky task as you become an adult.

A change in your life might have you switching your priorities from fighting murlocs to making deadlines, but deciding to progress your life in the real world does not mean that you have to sacrifice playing WoW. Still, you might find the need to delay your time in Azeroth indefinitely.

If you happen to be a veteran warlock in need of catching up with the latest information, or a newcomer who's curious about the dark arts revolving the class, this blog aims to fill in that gap.

Warlocks Vicarious

A decent amount of effort and time is needed to maintain the skills of a warlock, so how is a blog going to help if you aren't playing WoW?

A Warlock Darkly is a gateway for both new and experienced players who desire to improve their experience as a warlock. It will have coverage on the three warlock specializations (Affliction, Demonology, and Destruction) including spells, talents and glyphs for each one. The blog will also give warlock-specific views on Player vs Environment instances, dungeons and raiding, as well as Player vs Player scenarios.

Optimal gameplay and proper use of warlock abilities require some thoughtful planning. This blog will give advice on how to change your game settings for the best in-game performance. This will include introductions to:
  • Graphics settings
  • Keybinding
  • User Interface tweaks
  • Macros
Possible topics for those who are interested in all things warlock in the Warcraft universe include information on warlocks in lore (and maybe tips on role playing in-game). Content on transmogrification of armor and weapons, mounts, and professions that compliment the warlock is also a possibility.

A bit about me

My decision to pursue the path of the warlock came when Enhancement Shamans, my former main class, underwent some severe changes to its game mechanics (which I found disagreeable). It also happen to be around the time I committed to getting a degree in Game Development. After five months of all school and no WoW, my desire to learn about warlocks persists, even though my free time is minimal at best. One of my current courses requires the creation of an informational blog. Combining my two wishes resulted in the creation of A Warlock Darkly.

  1. I have always had a curiosity in World of Warcraft and I still have not played the game. There always seems to be an expansion that makes the world larger and gives the player more to explore. I think it is too late for me to play this wonderful game but I really enjoy the whole atmosphere it gives off.

You are probably playing as a warlock and this would be the reason for you writing about them for your blog.
What made you choose to play the warlock? What qualities does this class have over the other classes?
Or is it that you play in a different style and the warlock compliments that style?

You have done a great job for your backgrounds and your colors all give off the same theme and at first glance is really impressive. It shows that you took the time to really make this blog your own and it works really well with the topic you chose. Would you consider doing a blog for each class because that would be better than most wiki pages.

    1. One of the main influences that got me started playing the warlock class was watching a YouTube channel by a player named Cobrak, who plays the Destruction specialization. And he rocks my socks. Here's his channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/casteas16

Comparing every class is a big ordeal, so I recommend going to Blizzard's official WoW page for a decent introduction to all the classes and races.

I have leveled multiple classes, including a hunter, a shadow priest and a couple of shamans. I played an enhancement shaman for a while, but I fell into warlock after my disagreement with the shaman mechanics change when Mists of Pandaria released. I do miss it though...
